Manuka Honey

Honey has been used for the treatment of many ailments and is well known for its healing properties. Manuka Honey comes from the flowers of the Manuka bush, a native plant of New Zealand.

Many patients have reported feeling some kind of benefit from taking Manuka Honey and it has been found to have an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect.

There are two types of Manuka Honey:

  • Manuka Honey
  • Active Manuka Honey

It is the Manuka Honey that has been found to have hydrogen peroxide anti-bacterial properties which is present in most honeys but it is the Active Manuka Honey which has been found to have its own anti-bacterial properties which are believed to have therapeutic uses.

The Active Manuka Honey can be distinguished from the ordinary Manuka Honey by its Unique Manuka Factor or UMF. The highest grade of Manuka Honey available is UMF16+. There are many Manuka Honeys available that do not have a UMF so it is important to look for the UMF on the label.

You should check with your doctor before making any dietary changes.

Apricot Kernels

A number of people have suggested that eating apricot kernels everyday helps to keep in good health and boost the immune system.

There are a range of different kernels, including Californian, Hunza or South African. All vary in size and so it is best to measure them by weight rather than quantity.

The kernels should be chewed or ground and not swallowed whole. When eating apricot kernels you should begin with a small quantity, say 1 a day and then work up and it is a good idea not to eat them on an empty stomach.

You should check with your doctor before making any dietary changes.
